Elliot the main character of this serial is a young American programmer. He works as an anti-social cyber security engineer in the day and protects the companies from being hacked. While at night he becomes a vigilant hacker. He's a loner and occasional drug user with a social phobia of being around most people. He has some exceptional computer skills and make best use of them to help those who he feels to be near to him and to castigate those people who he believes are harming other people.

Starting the episode with “I know what it’s like to be different. I’m very different, too.”

In the first episode hellofriend.mov, Elliot discovers that the owner of a coffee shop he frequents is hiding a terrible criminal secret. Uncharacteristically confronting the owner in person. Elliot tells him that he frequently comes to his coffee shop because coffee shop has a Wi-Fi fiber connection of several gigabits speed. This thing made him curious and he started to intercept all the traffic on his network. He says that the owner thinks that the network is not so anonymous as he thinks, because he has seen the tor networking connection which the owner uses to hide the servers. He gives him a document which is a list of all the data of owners network. The owner offers him money but the Elliot leaves just before as the police arrives, saying  a wonderful line “I don’t give a shit about money”. Elliot also hacks his best friend Angela to keep watch over her, and his psychologist to protect her from unscrupulous suitors. He says about psychologist;  She is not good about reading people, but he thinks himself to be good at reading people.

At his day job at a cyber-security firm, Elliot thwarts a hack on their biggest client. He analyzed the attack and says that it’s a very dangerous attack. If they resist they would spread the virus allover. So he recommends to offline all the systems and then clean the system from the malwares. In the process he discovers some secret lines of code meant for his eyes only. He chooses to leave the code in place, curious to see the meaning of it.

On his way home on the subway, Elliot is approached by man with a "Mr. Robot" patch on his jacket. The stranger appears to be a down-on-his-luck drifter, but Elliot has seen him before and surmises that he's been following Elliot. The stranger confirms that Elliot left the secret code in place, and then leads him to Coney Island. Once there, Elliot is introduced to a secret team of hackers who are determined to bring their version of justice to the world.

Elliot cybersecurity firm takes a meeting with Evil Corp to assess the damage of the server hack, and CTO Terry Colby (Bruce Altman, Blue Bloods) proves himself to be nothing more than a wealthy, arrogant jerk. (The exact kind of person that Elliot likes to ruin, as we learned earlier.) In that moment, Elliot decides he’s going to side with Mr. Robot, after all, and provides Evil Corp with a modified computer file that ultimately frames Colby for the hack on his own company.

But even after Colby is taken away in handcuffs, the surprises keep on coming for Elliot: In the middle of Times Square, where he’s celebrating Colby’s arrest, Elliot is approached by a number of men who look like they belong in the Secret Service and chauffeured to a mysterious office building. There, he is greeted by the same men-in-suits that he believed had been following him all week — and one of them is an Evil Corp employee whose creepy salutation (“Bonsoir, Elliot.”) can only be a sign of bad things to come.
